Handling the dicey task of parenting was the focus of a parenting seminar held recently at MIMS Nursery and Primary School Bajulaiye, Lagos.
The seminar with the theme: “Parental Roles in Child Psychology and Development” was coordinated by Prince Adesegun Ogungbayi, the board chairman of MIMS.
Speaking at the event on November 23, 2024, Prince Ogungbayi described it as “a unique occasion in our collective life as we assemble here in line with the aspiration of the Governing Board of MIMS Group of Schools, Shomolu, Surulere and Epe respectively”.
The education expert stated that the intent of the programme is to “strengthen ourselves morally, spiritually, and also attend to our health status in our own little way.”
Ogungbayi said:
“It is important to call our attention to the need to ensure proper monitoring and mentorship of our children towards academic excellence devoid of immorality at all times. There are limitations to our roles on your children after graduation from MIMS. The rest are yours except those who beckon at us for continued mentorship. The percentage of parents doing that to date is not appreciable compared to number of pupils graduating annually.”
He continued:
“The school has produced world-class achievers who are professionals in their various chosen fields of endeavour across the world. Some of our latest products from MIMS Nursery and Primary School, Shomolu annexe, are at first-class in federal Universities, state universities, and across the world now.
“Apart from that, they are equally making great marks spiritually globally. These are good and great as MIMS strive towards clocking 30 years of academic greatness next year and as we expect more of such graduates annually. Our organization policy shall ensure no student is left behind in our quest for academic excellence and to build all-round students who can conquer the world and write family names on the world map.”
In the same vein, seasoned Counsellor, Mrs. Fatimah Jaji, diagnosed the home, economic and environmental effects of child psychology and development in the 21st century. Dr. Oladipo Buniyamin of the Lagos Ministry of Health spoke on various health challenges and how to manage and overcome them. MIMS authorities said the health scrutiny segment was included because it is only a parent with sound health that can perform his or her responsibility as expected on a child till the university age.
On his part, the chairman of the Parents’ Teachers Association (PTA) meeting of MIMS, Akintunde Haruna Kehinde, appreciated all the parents for their presence.
He said:
“On behalf of the PTA executives and the parents, I thank the committee members who saddle the events for a job well done in organising this event.
“The importance of this programme cannot be overemphasised, we say kudos to the organisers.”
